Several computers failing when under stress
Several computers failing when under stress
The problem involves both my old and new PCs shutting down unexpectedly during gaming or heavy use. It happens suddenly, without blue screens or freezing, just a complete stop. Sometimes after 15-30 minutes it restarts, but then crashes again later. After a restart, I can play right away until it fails again. Since both systems show the same issue, it seems the hardware itself might be the cause. The temperatures on my new system are low, making overheating less likely. I've tested different power supplies and outlets but had no luck. Could the electrical setup in my apartment be the reason? I'm unsure where else to check. Would adding a UPS help? What are your suggestions?
Did you use the identical operating system drive on both devices? Were you required to reinstall the OS after transferring to a new computer? If it was Windows, did Event Viewer record any events during the power outages? Were you repurposing components from the original PC? Do you have any accessories like keyboards, mice, cameras, microphones that you transferred to the new machine?
Yes, Windows is installed on both systems. A fresh Windows install was completed by the manufacturer who assembled the PC. 2. I see this issue; -Event ID 41: The system restarted without a proper shutdown. This problem might stem from the system failing to respond, crashing, or losing power suddenly. Are there any specific events you should check? 3. The new PC uses all original components. 4. I’m employing the identical keyboard, mouse, and monitor with the new PC.
Does the business perform a stability or burn-in test? If it cleared all their evaluations and you haven’t made any adjustments, it likely points to a connected accessory causing a fault or something as simple as a pet chewing on the keyboard wires. If they skip testing for any reason before handing it over, you might try disconnecting everything except the mouse and check if it still malfunctions. Alternatively, borrow a device from someone else to see if it functions properly.
It indicates the system didn't shut down properly, which happens whenever you skip using the shutdown option in Windows. Were the components operating on separate circuits? Also, power quality should be reliable in Belgium. You might have a landlord or contractor compromising on electrical standards during installation, but typically regulations demand solid wiring and consistent power supply. Regarding the UPS, that's the topic.
They mentioned stress testing, which I think means they ran tests with Heaven Benchmark still installed. I plan to check another monitor and keyboard, though I wouldn’t be too surprised if they’re the cause since I can use the PC for browsing and streaming without issues. I tried three outlets from the same breaker and one from another, but the building was recently renovated—some corners might have been compromised. Still, I’m surprised it’s the problem. All other devices in the house are functioning properly. I should also note that I didn’t have this issue before; on my previous PC it started a few months ago, but I thought it was just age-related.
It’s good to hear! You might want to consider using an UPS, especially if someone has one available for borrowing. This could help with power issues and might be useful for troubleshooting. It seems the problem is likely related to power supply. The Heaven Benchmark appears to be functioning properly unless the entire PC stops working.
Recent update: I've confirmed it works with a UPS and various monitors/keyboards without any issues. Benchmarking with cinebench, 3Mark Time Spy and Heaven also didn't trigger a crash. It appears the problem only occurs during gaming now. I've played three different games, all crashing after 15-30 minutes. It might be related to the motherboard, RAM, PSU, or even the card. I'm planning to bring the PC back in for further troubleshooting.
