You can use the same CD key without reformatting your drive. Just enter the same key when installing Windows.

when hardware stays the same, especially the motherboard, you can keep using the same key whether it's OEM or retail. if you're swapping in a new board or CPU, only a standard retail key works because the OEM key is linked to that specific motherboard.

the person who sold me the retail version told me it disappears once I change its format. only the OEM version can maintain reformatting on the same computer

You may access the same file on another device, though it won’t work for downloading the Windows 7 ISO.

Yes, using the same code works for both Windows 7 Pro 64-bit retail and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit CD.

You'll need to turn on the key each time. The easiest method is via the phone. Microsoft will contact the provided number with a pre-recorded message and guide you through the verification process. I did this using an old W7 Pro key from a discarded work machine, tested it on a different computer, and everything worked smoothly.

There isn't a current version of Windows 7 that requires CD keys for installation anymore.

You should remove the key from the device using a few simple command prompt instructions. This process is straightforward.

We offer three main key categories: retail keys purchased individually, OEM keys that come with devices, and enterprise versions whose usage isn't clear.
