I’m planning to assemble a new PC and need to decide whether to look for Windows keys online or purchase them at a store. I’m specifically looking for Windows 8.1 and want to know if there’s a more affordable option than buying retail.

Joined r/reddit, purchased several keys from him without any problems. Also, the price was $90 off retail.

Seek an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) copy of the software you need, as these tend to be more affordable.

OEM keys are usually not available for hardware swapping, since it's risky to handle them.

When purchasing, the instructions are clearly shown on the sticker that secures the device. The person who opens it is in charge of the key, not the shop. If you encounter activation problems, contact Microsoft for assistance—they resolved an issue with a faulty key using a 10-minute tape. I’ve handled this situation before without any complications, except for occasional calls to support.

Are you referring to this individual? Why does he seem to get such a low price? What does OEM stand for? Could you clarify what you meant by that?

OEM keys are intended for businesses that manufacture PCs and distribute them with Windows pre-installed. They're primarily for those companies, though regular buyers can also purchase them. The included package isn't as polished as a store-bought one, but that's the extent of it. A key is simply a key...

They purchase large quantities from suppliers globally, receiving authentic keys. OEM keys usually don’t cost significantly less than retail prices—perhaps around $30 or less—but they remain fairly costly.
