I'm working on a laptop equipped with a 256 GB SSD and another 80 GB SSD that replaced the DVD drive. Before adding another 80 GB SSD, I managed to dual boot Kali Linux and Windows 10 using just the 256 GB SSD. Over time, I realized that even with 256 GB storage, it wasn't sufficient, so I removed Linux. Later, I switched to a SSD caddy to replace the DVD drive I used initially for installing Linux. Now I have two SSDs, but the 256 GB is only for Windows. I attempted to dual boot Linux on my 80 GB SSD, but I found that running Linux there isn't possible. I tried using Rufus to make a bootable USB, first attempting an ISO image, but when installing Linux it reported it couldn't detect my CD-ROM and stopped the process. Eventually, I switched to a DD image which completed the installation smoothly. However, when I booted from the USB without installing, everything worked fine. I also encountered issues with the 80 GB SSD—when I set it as the main drive in UEFI BIOS (legacy mode), I only saw a blank screen or a white line during startup, and sometimes the Kali Linux pre-OS interface appeared with confusing prompts like "errno=-16" or "update mirocode to version 0xb2 or later." After several attempts, I lost all hope. Could someone assist me? Also, I tried booting Linux live from the USB without installation, and it functioned perfectly normally.

Ensure UEFI Boot Mode remains active, clean the Linux SSD thoroughly before reinstalling. Kali recognizes UEFI and sets itself up automatically. Note that most distros now require secure boot, and on my machine at least Ubuntu 17.10 won’t start without it enabled.

Consider installing the GRUB bootloader on the master boot record for broader compatibility, unless you're targeting a specific Linux SSD setup.

Legacy boot works as expected, but with UEFI you must set up a 100MB partition at the beginning of the drive. Assign it the mount point for ESP or EFI and instruct grub to install there. The auto-create partitions tool will manage this, provided the SSD is formatted using GPT instead of MBR and is free of existing partitions before you begin.

I continue experiencing the same errors again. The system reports it cannot find /dev/ssd2.
