Think about configuring your Windows server for global access. Since FTP works locally, you might need to set up a public FTP service or use a web-based solution like a cloud hosting provider. Check out modern alternatives such as SFTP or SSH for secure connections. Also explore updated guides on YouTube that cover current best practices.

It seems you're avoiding FTP due to its weak security. Have you configured port forwarding on your router?

The alternative method is available; we attempted it earlier but it didn’t work.

Preferably a VPN, since it allows you to connect as though you're on the local network.

You need to configure port forwarding on the router for it to function properly. You can also restrict the port range in passive mode and set the external IP in Filezilla FTP server (and similar tools). Consider using FTP over TLS—it encrypts communication between client and server, and file transfers can be encrypted too. Explore platforms like OwnCloud or other services that let you share files via a standard browser. For remote connections, RealVNC offers strong encryption and reliable performance, though you shouldn’t rely solely on it for external access.

I meant setting up a VPN server like OpenVPN on your PC and directing your router's traffic through it so you can access it online.
