Settings for Avast?
Settings for Avast?
I’m exploring the options for AVAST Anti-Malware and have some concerns. 1. For internet pages, which settings should I turn on or off? 2. Since Malwarebytes lacks real-time scanning, should I disable it too? 3. Windows Defender appears to be disabled after installing AVAST—am I okay with that, or should I stick with Windows Defender? 4. Should I enable PUP’s protection in AVAST or stick with Malwarebytes? Should I use AVAST at all? 5. The Chrome extension came with AVAST; I removed it because it caused conflicts—should I reinstall it? 6. How can I confirm AVAST is actively scanning my PC? 6th question: What should I know about AVAST’s monitoring status?
1.) I strongly suggest turning off DeepScreening and Hardened Mode unless they’re already disabled. These settings often create more problems than they resolve.
2.) MalwareBytes works well with Avast, even when real-time scanning is active. You don’t need to turn it off; it’s wise to run it occasionally for extra protection against undetected threats.
3.) Windows Defender focuses solely on spyware detection, whereas Avast scans for spyware, viruses, and trojans. I’ve disabled it myself—leave it on if you have no issues, but consider turning it off temporarily to test.
4.) As mentioned in point 2, PUP is optional. It simply flags potentially risky programs, such as torrent clients.
5.) I don’t use any Avast extensions.
6.) The system should confirm everything is functioning normally. Also, verify that the Action Center (or similar) is properly enabled.
I adjusted all the settings and everything appears fine. In the Action center it shows AVAST Antivirus is active for Virus Protection and Spyware/Unwanted software. The Windows Firewall is running and everything seems normal. There’s no Malwarebytes listed in the Action center, which makes sense since I’m not using real-time monitoring. As long as AVAST is installed, Windows Defender remains inactive—it even prevents me from enabling it because it claims another program (AVAST) is already running and watching my PC. It also indicates AVAST is scanning my system when I click the icon. However, the Web shield is causing problems; it blocks me from logging into my Reddit account and restricts certain sites. Any solution?
You may add an exception within the settings. When opening the Settings window, go to Active Protection > Find Web Shield > Click Customize > Exclusions. There you’ll find a part labeled “URLs to exclude.”
Your antivirus software can still provide protection even if you're using AVAST, it's not completely pointless.
I added Reddit to the Exclusions, but it didn’t help. Trying to disable HTTPS seems to resolve the problem, though I’m not sure what it does. When logging in, the error message appears as “Error 0,” which might be related to AVAST. Is disabling HTTPS safe for your account?
You might need to do it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless it's simple scanning.
Secures communication by encrypting data between devices and websites.
Avast examines HTTPS connections only. HTTPS stands for HTTP Secure. More info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTPS
