Setting up WWAN on Windows

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude XT2 laptop equipped with a Dell 5620 mobile broadband WWAN card. I’m trying to get WWAN active but am having trouble. In the Cellular and Network settings of Windows, it just displays “Not connected.” I’m unsure how to add a network to the card, especially since this is my first experience with WWAN. Do I also need a SIM card installed for it to work?

It's similar to your smartphone. What operating system is it using? As a Dell, Win10 and 11 aren't compatible with this device. It's quite outdated.

Yes, it seems a bit outdated. I'm using Windows 10, and the broadband driver from Windows 7 is already installed. (About 98% of those Windows 7 drivers for Dell laptops function on Windows 10 if you're careful.)

I manage that task. You’ll likely discover a tiny space for SIM cards in the earlier devices, where removing the battery often revealed it.

The SIM slot is located beneath the battery. I'm going to insert the card there; I wasn't sure if I should have brought one at all.

The Wwan card requires a SIM card, but newer models don’t. You can connect the Wwan card using its IMEI number directly to your subscription, similar to how SIMless phones work.
