You have an external drive but it's showing a boot device prompt. You think you set it as boot priority. Try adjusting that setting again. If that doesn't help, let me know and I can walk you through installing Windows on an external hard drive using your x99-ud4 motherboard.

I've tested using an external hard drive. The system powers off at the BIOS screen, restarts, and then restarts again. I don’t have a USB stick big enough for Windows unless it’s a 4GB model. Since there are mixed video instructions, here’s a clear step-by-step guide.

Use Rufus to download the Windows 8 ISO. Insert the USB drive and follow the prompts to install it. The BIOS will guide you on which key to press during setup.
