Your old PC is having some issues. You want to run Windows 2000 or NT4 because you have the CDs for them. Since XP is already installed, you need to install one of those older OSes and follow the installation instructions. The setup wizard will ask you to restart and boot from the OS installation CD. If it doesn’t work on W2K or NT4, let me know what happens next.

Installer CD is required by default. It doesn’t need to be from the original manufacturer; any compatible version works fine.

Yes, the Windows XP normal installation CD should allow you to reinstall Windows XP properly.
