Setting up the operating system on a fresh storage device
I checked online for solutions to my issue but didn’t find a clear answer. The problem seems related to limited space and airflow after upgrading components. I removed the old drive temporarily, but the NTLDR error forced me back. The drive is over seven years old and makes loud noises, yet it stays installed due to Windows partitions. I’m wondering if it’s possible to reinstall data on the newer drive without formatting it, since everything is there. Also, I don’t have a backup method. Any advice would be helpful?
Shrinking reduces the file size, allowing you to free up space. It can decrease storage by around 40 gigabytes, for instance. Before shrinking, you’d need to remove about 82 gigabytes of data. Afterward, your storage should be fine, except for that 82 GB that gets moved to a new location like C:.
If you manage to obtain a working HDD in decent shape, you can swap it for your outdated one. In my country, it’s simple to locate refurbished 160GB Seagate/WD drives with a one-year guarantee.
I would receive a replacement hard drive... but it would still be too full for optimal performance.
