I just disassembled my old laptop to check what parts are faulty and confirmed the battery and HDD are dead. Selling it doesn’t seem worthwhile, so I’m considering repurposing something from it. Would it be feasible to use a PCIe Wi-Fi adapter from Amazon and connect your laptop’s Wi-Fi module to a desktop? Also, is the Atheros AR5b125 chip only for Wi-Fi or does it also handle Bluetooth? Here’s the adapter link I plan to buy: https://www.amazon.de/Desktop-Wireless-C...fi+adapter. Thanks.

Other options might be viable, but the key issue is whether the laptop wireless card is compatible only with HP-brand devices. This creates doubt about functionality. Still, for a similar cost to the adapter you were considering, I discovered a N300 wireless card that should work reliably. https://www.amazon.de/TP-Link-TL-WN881ND...+wifi+card

The cards usually aren't tied to the laptop; instead, the BIOS contains a white list of compatible cards. Anything not on that list prevents the machine from booting. The WiFi adapter I removed from my sister's laptop was a generic brand model available at any store.
