Setting the CPU voltage on an R5 1600 indeed restricts its clock speed to 1.5GHz.
Hey there,
I'm trying to boost my Ryzen R5 1600's performance. The clock is set at 3.8ghz with auto voltage, and stress tests are passing. HWmoniter and CPUZ confirm the overclock. But when rendering a video, my PC crashed. I thought it was normal, so I adjusted the core voltage to 1.35. However, after changing it, both CPU-Z and HWmonitor display a core frequency of just 1.5mghz. The benchmark on cenebench shows a massive difference in scores between the initial overclock and the new setting. What am I missing?
I'm running an MSI X370 SLI plus with the latest BIOS, Windows 10 64bit, GTX 1070, and a hyper-evo 212 cooler.
It seems like a BIOS error occurred. Visit your motherboards manufacturer's website to obtain the latest BIOS and install it. I had the same issue with ISSEU on my ASUS Crosshair 6 Hero using the X22 multiplier bug. After updating the BIOS, the problem was resolved. Enjoy overclocking!

Paul's hardware on yt has shared a helpful video about overclocking the latest Ryzen chips and memory. It might be useful to check it out to ensure you didn't make any mistakes or overlook something. Thanks for the suggestion. I actually applied that video to successfully overclock my PC once before, but then I attempted to render a video. Notably, lowering the CPU core voltage manually still slows down the CPU, even though the BIOS shows 3.8ghz.

David119 reported a BIOS error and advised checking the manufacturer's website for the latest BIOS, recommending installation. Shared personal experience with an ISEU on an ASUS Crosshair 6 Hero using the X22 multiplier, resolving the issue after updating the BIOS. Encouraged others to enjoy overclocking.
