Hello, when I try to cut input lag down as much as possible, I usually limit my frames per second (FPS) to match my monitor's refresh rate. This depends on the game I'm playing, but if I cap the FPS, games start to shake or stutter. I have Vsync turned on, and whether it is on or off does not make a difference to me. I own a 144Hz screen, so I adjust the frame rate based on what each game supports. Right now, I only play two titles: Battlefield 1 runs smoothly at 120Hz, while Assassins Creed Origins works fine at 60Hz. If I don't cap my FPS, there is no stutter. My computer setup includes an Intel Core i7-8700K, a GTX 1080 graphics card, and two 8GB sticks of RAM running in dual channel mode at 3000MHz. I'm using Windows 10 with the newest drivers for everything. Here is what I tried to fix this problem: - A fresh installation of Windows 10. For example, in Battlefield 1 while using an in-game FPS limiter and showing a video link:

Some screen effects can really cause stuttering. That's ironic, isn't it? Have you tried turning off RivaTuner? You should also try switching off things like ShadowPlay just to see if they help.

afaik, when frame rates are capped like v-sync, the time it takes to make each frame is around 16.6 ms. If the GPU can't create a new frame fast enough, the old one keeps playing on screen instead of being replaced, which causes a stutter. Also, low frame caps (like 60 frames per second) usually don't cause much trouble when playing FPS games.

Some overlays can cause stuttering, which is ironic because you might think switching them off would fix it. What is your experience with RivaTuner turned down? Maybe you should turn off things like ShadowPlay too. In the video I showed, there was no RivaTuner installed. It wasn't even in when I made that video. @zyh1987 I used Windows 8.1 for a few months and had no problems. But then after installing Windows 10, things started happening a couple of weeks later.

I've heard this before too. Your screen settings could be causing the problem. I see you are running at 1920x1080 on 120hz. Change it to 1920x1080 on 144hz instead. That might stop the stuttering even when limiting frames. It's also a good idea to check your display adapter settings and make sure they show 144hz there too. Let me know if that helps!

I have had this problem before. The resolution setting might be causing things to go wrong. I looked at your settings and saw that you are using a 1920x1080 picture size with a refresh rate of 120hz. Please change it to 1920x1080 with a refresh rate of 144hz instead. This could stop the stuttering while still keeping the same number of frames. It might be smart to check your display adapter settings too and make sure they are set to show a 144hz refresh rate. Let me know if this helps. My display adapter was already at 120hz, even though I tried to change it to 144hz. The stutter still happens every time.

I had a really bad stutter in Assassin's Creed Origins even when I turned down the graphics to low. No matter what I tried, the stutter kept happening. As my last option, I reorganized my C drive and installed the newest Windows 10 file. Problem solved. Wish I'd done that earlier.

hey so right now i'm having a tough time with my pc. it's got an intel i5-12600, rtx 3060, ddr4 ram at 3200 speed, and a 60hz screen. playing games when the frame rate is unlimited makes them run smoothly, but if I cap the game to a specific number of frames per second, it starts stuttering. anyone else figured out why capped gaming causes stuttering?

Four years down the line, everything feels totally changed. If you need to talk about what happened right now, please make a new post here instead of this one.
