Hey there! Someone can definitely assist you with the network problem. Your wireless modem isn’t reaching your computer, but you’re considering using a new wireless router as an extender. Let’s figure this out together.

The only part I don’t agree with is configuring the IP address. Usually you should verify it’s outside the DHCP range of the main network or enable DHCP to avoid conflicts with other devices on the LAN. Of course, the problem with the latter is that if you ever need to change settings again, you’ll have to remember its current IP address. While many routers display the assigned DHCP value, not all do, so it might be necessary to reset it back to factory defaults.

It might be too early to decide, since disabling the DHCP server can often resolve issues without needing further steps. Still, it’s not ideal for a router of this type, as it could significantly slow down your connection. What kind of repeater are you using, and is it connected directly to the main router?

I haven’t received the repeater yet, but I’m checking now since I’m trying to set it up as a repeater without connecting it to the main ISP router.

Consider a repeater not connected to the primary router via cable—it may only provide half the Wi-Fi speed you experience when linked directly through a strong signal. Line-based repeaters tend to be more effective in such situations.
