Set up your local area network for a LAN party.
Our school IT team informed us they wouldn’t allow LAN parties for the CIS class. We had to set up a new location for our Minecraft server and other services. We repurposed unused space in our Cisco racks, installed Gigabit switches on each rack, and mounted our servers onto the racks. We also began connecting the 50+ PCs in our room to the network and managing the cabling—this was a huge undertaking. There’s still plenty of work ahead, but we’re hopeful!
It’s impressive, but remember what might happen later. Someone not familiar with IT might have told you the right way, or even built it yourself. Creating a dedicated network segment for your group could have worked perfectly. Adding proper security measures would have kept everything safe.
