your gaming PC runs Windows 10 and connects through your Netgear modem via Ethernet. your server uses Windows Server 2022 and is linked to a 10-port unmanaged switch, which connects to your modem/router combo. you want to place both computers in the same room—your gaming PC in the living room and your server desktop in the bedroom—and set up data transfer between them.

Start by launching File Explorer on the NAS, create a new folder, right-click and choose properties, then go to the sharing section, select share options, pick the intended users or group, disable sleep features in both the power settings and control panel, enter the correct path in File Explorer of the target PC, and if needed, access the folder via SMB. P.S. Ensure your system activates automatically upon BIOS restart.

I’m not clear on what you mean by "smb," but I need to be able to access a folder on the server from my Windows 10 gaming PC and move files between them via the internet.

Both devices link to the identical modem/router. To set up a file share, follow the steps for your specific system.

Click the folder, open properties, select sharing, and then assign a network drive on the client machine.

Server Message Block is the standard method for establishing a basic NAS setup using Windows. Simply adhere to the steps provided earlier, and you’ll be able to link to the NAS and retrieve files from the shared directory on any PC within your local network using your existing connection settings.
