I recently helped a friend with a Surface Pro after an update from Windows 8 to Windows 10. During the installation, the device would shut down and restart, then appear functional but unable to log in. To simplify things, I reinstalled Windows 10 using a pen drive. Now it asks for an activation code because it’s an OEM version. My concern is whether this process is as straightforward as just using a pen drive with the OEM install. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

The manufacturer should function properly. The essential settings remain stored in the BIOS.

It should be no more complicated than using a genuine original part.
