You can obtain a Windows 8.1 installation media from G2a.com and then use a bootable USB drive to install it on your new system.

I believe the largest capacity I own is 16GB. I might be able to request a larger drive from a friend, but I’m not sure where to find the installation file.

Verify you're using the correct PC. Ensure your device is running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 Preview for an upgrade to Windows 8.1. If you have the newest Windows 8 version, you can download it from the Windows Store at no cost.

I'm using a slow Ubuntu machine, so I can't execute .exe files. Should I switch to Windows 7 temporarily? My desktop is still pending, but I'm preparing the ISO on this PC. EDIT: Got it!
