I haven't tested it with a VM, though I managed in another scenario (it didn't work perfectly). I set up a fat32 partition, copied files from the Ubuntu ISO, and added the efi/boot/bootx64.efi file to the new boot entry. It started up, but installation failed—someone mentioned needing to unmount the partition after booting. Doesn't seem to work with Arch.

examine virtualbox raw disk access or consider paying for VMware Pro. alternatively, try Hyper-V raw disk access, though this usually needs the disk offline, which may not work. or yumi
