I haven't tested it with a VM, though I managed in another scenario (it didn't work perfectly). I set up a fat32 partition, copied files from the Ubuntu ISO, and added the efi/boot/bootx64.efi file to the new boot entry. It started up, but installation failed—someone mentioned needing to unmount the partition after booting. Doesn't seem to work with Arch.
