Set up OpenVPN server on TrueNAS Core Configure the VPN service properly for secure connections
Hello everyone, I've set up my OpenVPN server following the video instructions. But I'm encountering some issues and need your assistance. On my Android device, I can browse the SMB share on the TrueNAS system successfully, but I can't reach the configuration page or access plugins/jails or other SMB shares on the network. Could you help identify where the problem lies? Configs: my LAN is 192.168.1.0, OpenVPN IP pool is 10.20.0.0, static route on Truenas (Network->Static Routes): Destination 10.20.0.0, Gateway 192.168.1.107. Port forwarding is also set up and tunables are configured. Thanks for your support.
Stargate enthusiast! I've attempted precisely what you're doing, including that exact video. However, setting up firewall rules in TrueNAS to permit VPN traffic has disrupted all IP configurations for jails and VMs. I've left this issue on my TODO list—moving to a Proxmox VM with OpenVPN in a separate Ubuntu Server would help. I'm hoping that resolves the routing problems. Another option is diving into natd firewall settings, but I suspect the root cause lies deeper in the TrueNAS special-sauce internal network configuration, which isn't easily accessible.
I've noticed your username as well! Moving my TrueNAS setup to a VM isn't really feasible for me since my old machine only has 4 cores and 4 threads. I was using OpenVPN before, which worked fine, but this is more complicated now. Why can I connect to the SMB share (Total Commander uses that IP) but not reach the configuration page?
