I think those iMacs used Apple's unusual thermal sensor with the existing HDD. You might need an adapter to connect it with an SSD. I saw on OWC's upgrade page they mention a thermal sensor being included. -kp

Ah yes that dreaded series... If I remember well it will work without but the fan will be running at 100% continuously.

Could you clarify if the issue involves a fan speed adjustment or something else? I’ll help you determine if it’s fixable.

I remember that without the thermal sensor adapter, the iMac increases fan speed to 100%, and I don't believe an app can change that setting. But maybe it's not accurate. It's been a while since I saw anything like this. -KeithP

That's exactly the goal, the fan operates at full capacity directly on the hardware, bypassing any app limitations. If an app couldn't address the problem, developers wouldn't bother creating specialized caddies.

Macs Fan Control functions flawlessly here. It mainly impacts the HDD fan, though it rarely reaches full speed. Adjustments can be made using Macs Fan Control at no cost. The fan operates entirely through software—no physical sensor needed. Using a replacement sensor is mostly just a formality.

I'm having trouble getting this software to install on my Mac. I've tried all possible methods and haven't managed to get another Mac running before Catalina. Every attempt using transmac to make a bootable USB failed. In the boot menu, the USB drive isn't showing up. Could this be a damaged disk? I checked the Sierra and el Capitan dmg files directly from Apple's site, but there was no success.
