Your home setup includes a PF-Sense router and a Linux PC with a Samba network share accessible via LAN. OpenVPN is configured on the router, and you're able to ping the PC and SSH into it from a VPN-connected laptop. However, accessing the Samba share through File Explorer isn't working. Possible reasons could be firewall rules, incorrect share permissions, or issues with the network configuration. Check if the share is properly mounted and verify that your firewall allows access. Also, ensure the Linux PC's network settings are correctly configured for the VPN connection.

There are many factors that might lead to problems in that configuration. I’d like more information. For instance, does anything function properly while connected to the VPN? Can you test connectivity to the SMB server? Do VPN clients operate on their own separate networks? If yes, do all firewalls (including pfSense and the server’s firewall) permit this network to reach the server?

Users accessing via the VPN can reach the server and even SSH into it, but mapping the shared folder as a network drive isn’t possible. The clients are on a separate subnet, which shouldn’t interfere unless there’s another issue (I’m still learning this stuff).

I don’t have access to your network configuration, so I can’t confirm whether the correct iptables rules are in place for Samba across subnets. Please verify with your firewall settings or consult your security policies.
