Set up a personal PC for internet use, including a virtual machine and a VPN connection.
Hello. I'm struggling to locate details about this setup. My work involves using a Citrix VM with a VPN to connect to our internal network. I don't use a VPN on my personal computer. Could anyone help clarify:
1) If switching the VM window to a second monitor and using a streaming service or game on the main screen, would my work see what's displayed?
2) When the VM is active, does my personal internet traffic appear only through the VM's VPN, or does it also show up for my employer? Based on what a coworker said.
Thank you for your time.
Your task needs oversight from another system to function properly. (avoid cutting corners at work) 2) The solution relies a lot on the VPN configuration. When only the VM traffic passes through it, separation is maintained. If all data travels via the VPN, visibility increases.
The issue at hand needs careful consideration. Are you attempting to bypass your employer’s monitoring systems? Yes, that could lead to termination. Several factors must be taken into account. First, is this device owned by your company? If so, expect consequences. They might install surveillance tools like keyloggers simply because they have the authority. Second, even with a second monitor, logging software can expose activity if connected through a VPN. Data travels between your device and their network, making it vulnerable to tracking. Third, workplace expectations demand professionalism, especially when working remotely. Many roles are designed for in-office collaboration, and distractions reduce efficiency. Ultimately, maintaining integrity is crucial—either adapt by improving your work habits or consider alternative solutions. Act now to avoid problems.
Thank for the info. I'm dedicated to working, but there's nothing to work on. My job involves customers traveling internationally, and well that's been a bit slow for the past 6 months. I'd rather do anything else then stare at a blank screen waiting for something to pop up or risk nodding off. I'm using my personal PC, not my companies. I just log onto the companies website, which launches an APP (VM) that acts as my work desktop.
