Hey everyone, I’m planning to relocate soon and need to set up a compact network at my new place. I’m completely new to this, so I’m looking for advice and ideas. Right now I understand: every room will have an Ethernet port using Cat6 cables. My internet comes from an LTE SIM router, and I rely on mobile data—no plans to change that since it works well for me. The router should be placed in a room near the window for stronger signal. My PC will stay connected via cable for stability, while I don’t have a Wi-Fi module on my device. Looking ahead, I want to connect a Smart TV NAS so all devices—including laptops—can access it from home and remotely. I also plan to link smart home gadgets like lights, shades, thermostats, and door sensors, preferably on a separate network for security. I’m thinking about using a different network or virtual network for those devices. I’d like a switch for managing everything, maybe something with 16 ports from a brand like Unity or similar. Any suggestions on how to set this up? Do you think it’s feasible?

You're referring to Ubiquiti. A managed switch and AP that supports VLAN configuration.

A standard Ubiquiti router should handle the task effectively.

How many entry points are required for full device connectivity with ample space for future growth? Is Power over Ethernet necessary? How extensive is the property? Is it a single-level or multi-story structure? What materials compose the interior partitions? What internet connection speeds can you expect from your service provider?

Need five connections per room plus two APs—planning ahead, starting with one AP. PoE is required for the AP setup in this 5+KK 2 level building. Internal walls are made of wood with insulation layers. I’m using mobile data, which means speeds may vary at each spot. I haven’t measured actual speeds yet, but max is 250 Mbps, so drops below 100 Mbps shouldn’t happen based on my experience. There’s also a fiber option available, giving me confidence for future-proofing.
