Set up a Minecraft server using a VPN.
I believe the setup is the main issue. I linked my Minecraft server to Pritunl, enabled the necessary ports on the Vultr host, but it’s showing a “connection refused.” Check the server configuration and ensure the correct ports are open. If the problem persists, verify firewall rules or contact support.
Attempting to link to the VPS using its IP address or joining the VPN on the same device can help. If you're connecting directly, the system may not understand your incoming traffic. Consider turning on Inter-Client Communication on the VPS and enabling Allow Multiple Clients. Then join the VPN and try accessing the Minecraft server with the IP provided by Pritunl. I haven't set up a Minecraft server recently, so you might need to configure it to broadcast over the VPN and listen for connections on all available interfaces. This approach should work if your intention was to reach it from outside using its IP and static routing, though it's a bit different. It should still be feasible.
I've reviewed all your instructions and double-checked the Vultr server's port settings, but it continues to reject connections despite everything being configured correctly.
The issue stems from the lack of a direct connection between the two processes. There’s no way to reach the MC server IP without using the VPN. Think of it like two individuals in separate rooms within a building, with the hallway serving as the VPN link. Without that connection, the VPS cannot communicate with the MC server. As discussed earlier, if you hosted the VPS on your home network, you could set up a static route to the MC server, eliminating the need for the VPN client. It might be feasible to connect the VPS’s VPN to a LAN-based VPN (Site-to-Site), but I suspect there are additional costs involved.
The main issue is the lack of a path connecting the VPN network to the VPS's public IP address. Static routes can be set, but I'm unsure if they support traffic flowing into or out of the VPN. They offer a subscription plan that adds capabilities like connecting several VPN servers (site-to-site).
