Hello, I received a school laptop already set up with Windows 7 Enterprise. However, I would have liked to have Windows 10 installed instead. I asked if it was possible to upgrade, but they mentioned it's not recommended. I considered dual booting since I have another copy available. If I encounter any issues, the IT team can switch me to their Windows 7 Enterprise version, allowing me to use Windows 10 privately. Do you think this approach would be a good idea?

Always have a backup of Windows 7. You can install Windows 10 on top and then switch back to Windows 7 once the process is complete. It shouldn't be too complicated to understand. Dual booting should also be an option. I haven't tried it myself, but I'm not sure.

Well, I’ll just hope the IT team doesn’t lose their temper. After all, usually I have more knowledge than them, unfortunately.

I understand your perspective. The IT team pushed me in a way that felt forced before. They even had a police officer come in to threaten arrest over system security issues. No real support ever came my way. I just laughed and left that school. Teachers at my new school keep asking for help, but the IT staff just tell them to restart everything again. It’s ridiculous! Don’t hide your name—show up strong.

Haha, seems like they didn’t mind if I messed up. It felt more like you could do it, but then all the consequences were yours.

Be mindful. The cleaning service might point the finger at you. Keep a copy of everything so you can restore it before returning it. Unless you have the item yourself!

I’m planning to paste the licenses because I don’t have enough of them, so I can just grab an ISO and reinstall if needed.

I can check the BIOS or boot menu. Running Windows 10 from an external HDD/USB stick is possible if you have access to it.

I can review bios, although there appear to be issues loading it from a USB drive [Edit]. I managed to figure it out. I had to press f9 to reach the boot menu and then select usb manually.
