Service on Windows not working properly.
I rely on the USB adapter since my laptop uses an audio/mic combo while the G430 provides two separate connections. It has functioned reliably for many years, indicating the matter isn't with the hardware. I'm 99.8% confident the issue lies within Windows.
I discovered the solution by chance while using my phone. My laptop entered hibernation because the battery was low at 7%. When I restarted it, the command prompt reported the service had stopped. I ran a command to restart it, and it functioned properly. This should help me next time, even though it doesn’t fix the underlying issue.
This was due to power issues, which you can turn off by disabling power-saving settings on the USB and adjusting them in Power Options.
It remains puzzling how stopping a USB sound card disrupts the audio system completely...
When a soundcard shuts down because of power-saving mode, it can cause the driver to fail if it wasn’t designed for such states. I experienced this with my dedicated PCI-E card—suddenly the sound cuts out completely and nothing works again. It seems the power-saving setting in that lane made it very sensitive to issues like static electricity. Sound cards are among the most delicate components in your setup.
