It varies by server location. Depending on where you are, you might experience slow connections. On the other side of the planet or continent, ping will be poor. If you're near a specific area, choose your region; Minecraft doesn't handle this automatically. The server you join could be far away and you might not realize it.

I'm in the middle of the US, on Mountain time. I don't feel too far away since some West Coast players can have good ping. Also, in Kohi lobbies I get solid response times, but in real 1v1s it's not great.

It doesn't seem to be an issue with my PC. My system specs are 4690k GTX 970 MSI Z97 Gaming 5 8GB GSkill Ripjaws EVGA Supernova 750g2. The internet speed appears limited due to many connections in the area, as mentioned by a technician from my provider.
