Server OS or not?
Configure the system for continuous operation on a lightweight Windows setup. Use an older ThinkCentre Tiny Form Factor PC with a built-in Home license that likely supports Windows 11. Evaluate activating Windows Server 2025 for update management, though disabling updates can prevent random restarts. Avoid unnecessary software unless essential.
A common issue with Server is driver compatibility. Based on the machine's hardware, certain components like chipset and GPU drivers may not work on Windows Server. Unless required, this should be acceptable, but 2025 is pushing limits. 2019 offers a lot of life left and remains very stable with an older Windows 10 interface.
When you're unsure about needing WS, it usually indicates you don't require it.
You require regular updates that demand a restart on both Windows versions. I’d set up the task so it automatically launches after a reboot.
Setting up your server operations after a restart is straightforward. This approach works even without updates if the system fails, loses power, or encounters other problems. Turning off automatic updates isn’t wise. You might also consider using WSUS to control specific updates, but simply schedule a monthly reboot instead.
