You'd set up a server environment, install the necessary software like SQL Server and .NET framework, configure the database connections, and develop C# services to interact with it.

They differ from standard operating systems; their scope is broader. They also depend on your CPU supporting virtualization features.

You require a SQL Server because it's exclusive to Microsoft, meaning you'd need to set up WinServ instead.

The CPU model is a Xeon E3-1246-v3, which is compatible with various virtualization solutions. You’ll need a SQL Server for your academic assignments and additional tasks.

If you require SQL Server, then yes, you'll likely need WinServ in some way. I'm uncertain about how effectively 8GB of RAM will perform with all these applications running as virtual machines.

Typically database tasks depend heavily on SQL, though it isn't exclusive to Microsoft. You can deploy an SQL server on Linux effortlessly with tools such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or numerous other SQL options available.

I understand... Right now I really need this. I believe we're close enough. I’d like a way to run Win Server and Win 10 together, so both can operate locally as a media center using the onboard GPU. Exsi might work? Hyper-V could handle it too? Perhaps adding 16 or 32 GB of RAM would help.

16 is enough and you can simply use Win10 to execute it, with a Windows server running in a virtual machine.
