Server model server2700x vs 9350k for dedicated gaming setup.
Hello currently looking to upgrade my game server I have here at home. Currently has a i5 4460 with 8gb of ram in it. But i would like to have some more performance out of it. Current games I'm hosting: Arma 3 headless client and two minecraft servers when I'm not hosting Arma. Main advantage with 2700x is the core and thread count. I could host two Arma 3 headless clients at the same time which would be very beneficial. Main advantage of the 9350k would be clock speed which Arma likes. But I don't know if a 9350k running at 5ghz(assuming I can get that oc with my cheap z390 mobo) will out perform the 2700x just simply hosting two hc's instead. There is about a 1.5$ difference in between them currently where I live. For those who don't know a Arma 3 headless clients basically do calculations for the server. So AI calculations ect. They usually provide a massive FPS boost to the server which gives all of the players more FPS since the player FPS is somewhat tied to the server FPS. Side note: Also host a Emby media server but that doesn't really make that big of a difference unless I'm encoding. Also there is a slight possibility that I might use it to render some blender/premiere projects in the future but that's a big fat maybe. Also my first post ever here so if this is in the wrong place or doing something I shouldn't please let me know so I can fix it.
I plan to purchase the 4460 + mobo + ram + budget Z390 motherboard for a potential upgrade to an AM4 platform if I decide to go with the 2700X. What recommendations do you have for a suitable motherboard in that scenario? Right now, the B450 Tomahawk is about $140, which is roughly $7 more than its maximum price. The Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming is around $115, offering solid reviews at a reasonable price. Also worth noting: I’m based in Sweden, so all figures are converted from Swedish Kronor to US dollars using a straightforward 10:1 exchange rate. I’m also using prisjakt.nu to compare prices across major retailers simultaneously.
Keep in mind that when you upgrade, you can move to 16 cores if required.
