The strangest part is setting up Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS for a standalone fog server on an isolated network. Before continuing, I'm attempting to create my "golden" Windows Pro image in VirtualBox. The Linux host frequently loses connection—currently getting a DHCP address from our DHCP server, but it reconnects only briefly (2-3 minutes max) after using "sudo netplan apply." I've installed Xubuntu Desktop because it feels less intimidating for my team, and I'm using an Intel DH67BL motherboard with an Intel i5 3450 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 1TB HDD. The fresh Ubuntu 18.04LTS from the official site is ready. I'm considering switching to CentOS7 or Debian for stability. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you tested it on other operating systems? Have you checked by linking another device to the network to rule out configuration issues?

This device was functioning properly until it was replaced with a new system. It was connected to a fresh Debian Powered clonezilla server that handles DHCP, which has been operational for two years. I plan to add another machine to the switch to verify my idea, as I haven't done so yet. I'll share updates soon.

It might be a driver problem, but Intel's NICs generally work well across systems. If you're comfortable changing or installing the Linux driver, that's a good first step. Alternatively, consider using Ubuntu Server 19.04 or an older version of Ubuntu Server if you're running a very old board. You may need a legacy driver, as support for newer versions has likely been removed. Another option is to install an AIC NIC and turn off the built-in one in the BIOS settings.

I'll attempt that setup. I have access to a vintage 3com NIC.
