Server issues frequently stop working properly.
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a home server that hosts Plex and runs Home Assistant. It keeps crashing and needs manual restarts. The machine is in the attic, tucked away in a server rack with a CCTV camera box nearby. The Intel 10th Gen parts are second-hand, but I’m not sure if they’re the cause. I can access it remotely when it’s running, which helps me manage it. Any tips or clues you have would be super helpful!
Intel 10700 (non K), basic Asrock board, 8GB RAM, no graphics card. Runs Windows 10. I’m unsure how to look for crash dumps. It seems crashes might lock the power button instead of a normal Windows crash. Getting to the PC in the attic is tough, so bringing up a monitor there would be very difficult. Also, I’m not confident about checking the self-reported health status.
I notice from the details that the PC is located in an unconditioned attic, suggesting several non-software causes might be at play. Have you thought about moving the machine out of the attic and connecting it to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor for direct troubleshooting? This would let you test it immediately and, while it's outside, update the motherboard firmware. You can begin by examining Event Viewer under System to see any recorded errors. Based on your description, it seems the computer may be experiencing hangs or freezes, which could appear in the logs.
