I usually forward an unusual port to my home computer, which makes verifying the remote machine’s identity difficult. Occasionally I rely on my Raspberry Pi VPN using OpenVPN with certificates and passwords, but direct connections are simpler. Could there be a method to integrate Kerberos for remote verification, perhaps using a Raspberry Pi? I’m seeking a solution comparable to the RDP gateway I use at work.

The RD Gateway deployment is limited to Windows Server systems. I prefer using VPN instead.

I’d also think a VPN is the safest choice in any case.
