Server built with Rust
Server built with Rust
Hi! You're aiming to run a Rust Server without any paid hosting. I've heard about setting it up on a dedicated server yourself. If you're looking for similar setups, others have shared their experiences and the hardware they used. With your laptop (i3 processor and 4GB RAM), it should be manageable. Let me know if you need more details!
Your download rate is quite solid, around 20mb per second on average.
Your PC has 8GB of RAM, which should be sufficient for running Rust. Online rental services typically range in cost depending on the platform and duration, so you’d want to compare prices before deciding.
The cost for each host varies significantly. I checked a few sites and found this comparison page: https://comparegamehosting.com/game/rust/ You should be able to discover more options there!
i understand you're running behind, but I managed to set up a rust server from my laptop. the specs are an intel pentium b940 at 2gHz, 8gb ddr3 ram, and a 500gb hdd on a del inspiriron 15r 5110. it performed smoothly with no lag and reached 250fps. i only connected myself, so five players at once might be challenging, but for solo use or a friend, this should work fine. if you're planning to host more users or use oxide, i recommend renting a dedicated server. currently, i use my laptop for work as part of my it technical support role.
If you're planning to run the server publicly, I wouldn't recommend handling it alone—you'll be overwhelmed as an admin or just enjoying the game! Hosting a server lets you choose suitable hardware, enjoy improved connectivity and uptime, and get external support. Many options are available on a monthly rental basis, making it easy without major concerns.
