The main issue is choosing between RouterOS and pfSense. Both have strengths, but direct comparisons are limited. I've spent six years with Mikrotik devices and about two years with pfSense. Now it's time for an upgrade—any thoughts?

I've always used pfSense and I really enjoy it, never faced any problems.

I would choose pfSense mainly due to its widespread adoption, making troubleshooting much easier

FreeBSD powering pfSense is often praised for its quicker networking capabilities, particularly in packet filtering tasks. Switching from OpenWRT to pfSense seemed to make the system feel more efficient.

Mikrotik hAP ac2 means you won’t need to switch to PFSense due to the extensive setup. At $70, it’s not worth investing in custom hardware for PFSense.
