I selected the Ryzen 5 3600 and need assistance choosing the appropriate RAM. I’m aiming for 16GB using DDR4. Since the system will primarily be used for gaming and likely run Linux, I want to make sure the specifications fit well. Let me know if you’d like more details!
It’s wise to verify the Qualified Vendor List for the board and processor series you plan to use (3600 is Matisse). Not being listed doesn’t guarantee it won’t work—it just means there could be issues. Let me know how I came to this. Edited September 27, 2022 by An0maly_76 Revised
I chose the Ryzen 3600 because it offered a noticeable performance boost compared to the Ryzen 5600. The newer Zen2 architecture in the 3600 provided better efficiency, and its higher price point justified the upgrade. In the U.S., the 3600 cost $139 versus $149 for the 5600, giving roughly a 30% performance gain. Additionally, the IMC on the 3600 made it simpler to support faster memory speeds, making DDR4-3600 more reliable than DDR4-3600+ on the older 3000-series chips.
It seems the original post didn’t mention a word “NEW.” The build appears to be using second-hand components mainly because of cost limitations. I purchased a 3600X from eBay used for $105, which offers much better value compared to most alternatives.
Thanks! It seems inflation affects computer parts a lot, so I'm checking eBay to see what's available. I didn't realize the price differences were so noticeable!
Thanks! I hadn't thought about eBay yet. I'll check it out now!
