I have limited experience with rack-mounted gear. I'm seeking a 24-port gigabit switch for budget purposes. I prefer not to use SFP modules and don't require VLANs. An unmanaged model would be ideal for simplicity. A rack-mounted router supporting 24 ports is also something I'd like to explore. Based on my current understanding, the TP-Link TL-SG3428 fits the description with its 24 ports, 19-inch mounting, and various management features. Business network gear is available on Amazon. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you!

The setup isn't overly complicated for unmanaged rackmount switches in a 19" size—they behave similarly to standard small switches that use AC power. If you need 24 fully managed Gigabit ports without layer 3 or PoE capabilities, consider a TP-Link SG1024S.

The 24-port switch should be readily available in a rack-mounted configuration. Remember though, you can simply employ rack-mounted shelves. My setup involves placing the router on a shelf, and then positioning access points throughout the home. I opted for shelves because it was simpler than restricting myself to rack-only equipment.

Let me clarify the potential downsides of using an unmanaged switch. Are you concerned about possible risks or overlooked issues?

They don’t handle advanced VLAN or QoS features, but I mentioned I’m avoiding those too. An unmanaged switch just provides more physical connections for devices.
