I'm looking for RGB options since I'm getting them. USBC isn't necessary but it helps with my OCD about a front panel port. More fan headers are better. There aren't too many features I really need or want—just a slightly less "budget" motherboard, similar to some ASRock boards. For the socket, both B550 are fine.
What is your budget, where are you based, and in which currency? What systems or resources are you supporting?
Around $140, the B550 Pro looks solid for a 5600x, while the Gaming X is more budget-friendly but less impressive at that price. The Pro model offers better performance overall. Keep in mind the board may require a BIOS update to run Zen 3, though it includes a BIOS flashback feature on the back—so you can upgrade the BIOS without installing a CPU.
In terms of VRM, they're essentially identical. It's a much improved board with enhanced IO performance and a stronger VRM setup—10.4C024N and 10.4C029N versus 10.4C06N and 10.4C010N. The B550 doesn't support Zen 1, so the 1600 won't work with this new model. As mentioned earlier, professional boards include a BIOS flashback feature, allowing you to update the BIOS for Zen 3 support without needing a CPU installed.
