I bought Sekiro the day it was released, but I couldn't play it until April 6th (that's when my 2060 arrived). I've been enjoying the game a lot, and the boss hasn't defeated me more than three times... Until
(LIGHT SPOILERS) The second time you encounter Genichiro Ashina, he gives me a brain aneurysm. After 12 deaths and one dragon rot, I reached a point where I could survive his first stage without dying [[if I was in my mojo]]. But that lightning stage...
I know you have to jump right before he hits, and you need to swing at him mid-air to pass the lightning, but his fighting style is extremely brutal in the final stage. Half of his attacks are unblockable and cover half the stage. You'll need to be jump-happy if you don't want to get hit, but if you try to dodge one of his attacks and you're wrong—especially if it turns out to be a lightning strike—you're in trouble.
I've died 26 times against him, and two people have contracted dragon rot since I started this boss fight. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

So... I got good. I went to sleep after writing this. I woke up this morning and beat him on my third attempt. I think I was really off last night, so I wasn't making any progress.
That's a solid lesson to take away, if you keep getting in trouble more than 20 times—maybe just need a break and come back later.
