By now you shouldn’t be pre-ordering titles, I believe this tactic has been overused and there’s little value in pushing outdated sales pitches. After a solid campaign for M3, 2K suddenly pulled the plug in a major way. Polygon reported that following talks with 2K, they’ve stopped sending review copies for Mafia 3 and even won’t let reviewers test the game ahead of launch day. Professional critics will receive access at the same time as everyone else. Of course there could be valid reasons (like avoiding spoilers), but it’s clear something needs to signal concerns about the final product.

They don't want reviewers gettings their hands on the games early? That means they have something to hide that they don't want potential buyers to know beforehand. Something that could dissuade them from buying. My hopes aren't high.

However, TheRadBrad already possessed a version, and there are some YouTube videos about it. EDIT: Although I think these aren’t really polished reviews.

I tend to enjoy buggy EA titles on Steam more than polished AAA games.

I believe it's too soon to label Mafia 3 a failure. The Watch Dogs community has turned into an enthusiastic group eager for the next challenge.

It's not surprising this half-built buggy "AAA" project is in disrepair.

AngryJoe shared two reviews without spoilers. The game is available on PS4, but the PC edition could have some issues.

Typically not a favorable indication. We'll assess its release later, I suppose.

Some games without any preview codes have proven amazing, such as Shadow of Mordor. However, in general, it's best to avoid pre-orders and be prepared for a possible refund within two hours if you ordered in advance.
