Seeking tips to enhance your Apex Legends gameplay!
Hello everyone,
I've lost touch with the latest hardware updates, which makes it hard to decide what upgrades would improve my Apex Legends experience. My old PC, which is ten years old, still works fine but has been affecting my gameplay lately. Factors like limited RAM, an older CPU, and a graphics card that no longer supports modern games are likely causing the issues. It's the only game I play regularly, so it's worth addressing these problems.
Right now, I run it at 1080p with 60 FPS, but it's becoming increasingly unstable. Adjusting settings hasn't helped much.
My main questions are:
- What hardware would allow me to play Apex Legends smoothly at 1080p and 120 FPS?
- Should I upgrade my current system with parts, or should I consider a new build?
- If I do upgrade, which components should I focus on and what brands do you recommend?
It doesn't matter whether I buy used or new parts—I just need to get the right specs without worrying about future upgrades.
At this stage, my thoughts lean toward upgrading the CPU and GPU, plus adding more RAM, but honestly, with such an old machine it's uncertain if that will reach my goals.
Alternatively, if I decide to replace everything, what would be the best path forward?
Thank you in advance for your time and any suggestions you might have. This could really help me improve my setup!
The Netherlands.
I haven’t really considered the budget, but since you asked, if I upgrade my current PC, I’d think it wouldn’t be worth spending more than €350–€400 if I stick with my existing setup. Feel free to let me know if you have different thoughts.
I’m open to spending more if upgrading to a DDR4 motherboard aligns better with my goals.
For a new system that offers many advantages, I expect my spending limit to be around €1500–€1750, but my first step was to explore what’s available with my current configuration. I’m also unsure if that budget will cover my objectives in today’s market.
And of course, I’m still curious about what would be needed for a new system to reach my target.
Thanks,
John

This provides a solid foundation. I'm not sure about the graphics card, but I wonder if omitting it could affect performance when paired with my R9 390 at 1080p and 120fps. Thanks for the clarification.

For an additional 35 euros, you can purchase the i5-12400 without a non-CPU. Without integrated graphics and if the GPU fails, you'll have no display. The extra protection is worth the modest cost, though it's up to you. F type Intel models do not include built-in graphics.

Also, new GPUs are expected around next Easter. Intel, AMD, and Nvidia will release their full new collections then.
I'm confident you'll get better value than what you'd pay for today's 4060.
The 4060 suits your needs and offers good value for the price. It lacks power for most intense games but works well for many others and uses minimal energy.
You can decide to wait or buy now—either option makes sense.
Another choice available.

Thanks for bringing up the 'F' in CPU names—I noticed it myself yesterday and I'll definitely remember it. It hasn't even occurred to me yet, but I appreciate you letting me know about the upcoming GPU lineup. 😊
