I'm seeking recommendations for some good TKL keyboards. I've seen videos about models like the Razer Huntsman V2 TKL, SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL, Corsair K70 TKL, plus smaller brands such as Wooting and Keychron. I'm curious which one might be considered the best overall. While opinions are personal, I'd love to hear what others think.
The top choice would be to obtain something similar to a Keychron and modify it. It doesn't have to be a Keychron, but should include hotswap switches and a layout that lets you alter keycaps. You didn't mention the budget you've allocated for your keyboard purchase. The best place to buy it would be helpful to know, as well as your location could assist further.
I am puzzled by the term "TKL keyboard."
It seems I have never come across it before...
What qualities should a keyboard have?
Do you prefer buttons that click, or do you want long/short travel keys, wireless options?
For me, having media controls—especially a volume knob—is essential.
I also value keyboards that connect to multiple devices and have a backlight.
After searching, I compared the Das Keyboard with the Logi Craft.
The key differences were the mechanical switches versus the scissor switch design and the ability to pair multiple devices.
Apologies for not including those details. It doesn't matter too much which site I purchase from, but Amazon is the best option, although some lesser-known brand keyboards aren't always available there. Also, I'm based in the UK, and the budget isn't a major concern, though most keyboards seem to fall under £200 at most. However, most keyboards appear to be within that range based on what I've seen.
For customizable keyboards, I noticed the Glorious models you can build yourself from their website. Are these quality options or do companies like Keychron and Wooting offer better customization?

By TKL I mean tenkey less, so it lacks the numpad. I've used Cherry MX blue, red, and SteelSeries Omnipoint switches before, but I'm uncertain which key switches would suit gaming and typing best. I've been testing the Huntsman V2 TKL keyboard for a day now, though I'm not sure if I prefer its quieter, linear switches or something else.
I personally possess the Keychron Q1 v2 with a knob, in the Silent Red version (G-Pro Red's), and modified my own keycaps. In the future, I plan to replace the key switches with C3 Equalz Kiwi/Tangerine Switches that I acquired a year ago.
I was planning to purchase the Glorious option until I discovered that the creators of Keychron are actually two brothers who also enjoy keyboards. Not promoting Keychron here, I bought three keyboards—two Q1v2s in Shell White and one Q5 in Grey-A option—and gave two to my siblings. Those who received the Glorious believed it was expensive and overpriced, but for a bit less you’re saving a lot and get a sandbox feel out of the box, allowing you to experiment.
In the end, I don’t want to push you toward any brand or design; you should consider it with caution, especially since you’ll be using your keyboard regularly. If you don’t type on your keyboard outside gaming sessions, explore options like Corsair’s products. For a more tailored experience, a customizable keyboard might be the best choice.
Because you referenced Keychron, I’ve noticed interest in the K8 Pro Wireless and others. Many people believe it’s a solid choice. Do you think it’s worth agreeing with that view? Are there other Keychron models you consider superior or equally valuable?
