Hi everyone, I’m looking at my Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM with CAS at 1800MHz (HWINFO). I’m considering switching to a Team Group 2x8GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM with CAS 14-15-15-35 Samsung B-Die. I plan to add another 2x8GB next month, bringing the total to 32GB. I’m a bit worried about how memory ratings are interpreted. For example, the reported 14-15-15-35 seems different from the 18-22-22-42. In HWINFO, the Corsair RAM is listed at 1066.7MHz for 15-15-15-36, so is the 14-15-15-35 at 1066.7MHz? And if I run it at 1800MHz, would the rating drop to something like 17-22-22-41? It doesn’t seem like a big jump, and I’m not sure if that’s worth the investment. Do anyone have any insight or advice on this?

Reading varies based on factors like RAM capacity and latency. For example, a 3200 MHz kit might have high CAS latency, making it similar to a 2666 MHz model. However, if frequencies are close and latency is low, performance will be comparable.

Also, clarify whether you're purchasing one 32GB or two 16GB kits—kits are tested together, so mixing different models can cause issues.

Your current RAM is 3600C18, but since you haven't turned on XMP/DPU in BIOS, it's running at 2133C14. First, enable XMP/DPU in BIOS so it matches the rated speed of 3600C18. If you plan to upgrade to a 32GB module, you have three choices: 1. Sell your existing RAM and purchase two 2x8 kits of 3600C14 for $400 (no matching 2x16 kits found). 2. Sell your RAM and buy two 16GB kits of 3600C16 for $200. 3. Buy another identical kit and install it—this offers about a 2% performance boost, making it the best value at around $80. From a cost perspective, option 3 is recommended.

For a quick comparison, a latency calculator works well. Faster speeds also require more RAM bandwidth, which is beneficial. Additionally, RAM speed affects Infinity Fabric performance with AMD.

It functions by setting XMP in the BIOS, which Windows then displays as 3600mhz and HWINFO shows 1796.8mhz. I realize I mixed up Double Data Rate and Dual Channel.
