Now that I’m here, I want to know more about PCs. This is my second post, and I’m new to the scene. My main gaming setup uses a Ryzen 5 3600, which I bought cheaply in January. I upgraded from an i7 4771 with a GTX 1060 and 6GB of VRAM, but apparently it stopped working. Now I have an RTX 3060Ti. I had to choose the Ryzen 5 3600 because I spent all my money on the graphics card, and even my motherboard is pretty basic (Gigabyte B450 DS3H v2). I’m thinking about getting an upgrade soon, maybe in December—new CPU and motherboard. I was considering the Ryzen 5 5600X, but a friend said it wasn’t worth it. They suggested at least the Ryzen 7 5800X for a better upgrade path, though it’s expensive in my country. I’m wondering if the Ryzen 7 3700X would be a better choice than the 5600X, somewhere in between? Or is it even worse? I feel like my CPU isn’t as strong as my GPU, and a better CPU would improve gaming performance. What do you think? Should I stick with the 3600 until I save more for the 5800X? (It’ll take time) Or am I missing out too much? If that’s the case, should I rush for a 3700X or a 5600X? Regarding the motherboard, I don’t mind fancy options much—I just want something reliable. I’m thinking a B550, maybe the ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Plus? Since my GPU is an RTX 3060Ti, it should match. Are there any other good B550 boards around that price?
The R5 3600 offers strong performance and works well in games at 1080p. Wait for the upcoming AMD processors with the new socket, since AM4 is nearing its limit.
I’m not ready yet, but I’m planning to upgrade soon because I expect extra cash at the end of the year. I think a stronger CPU could really boost my 3060Ti’s performance. One of my Warzone players uses a 3060Ti with an R7 5800X and consistently hits 20–40 frames per second depending on the map. I usually see around 120fps, but sometimes it drops to about 85fps, which is quite noticeable. My friend’s system stays steady at 140fps or higher. I have 16GB of RAM at 3200Mhz and keep Discord open while playing, so I’m pretty sure the R5 3600 won’t reach its full potential for this model. I bought it at a good price thanks to a deal, so I always considered upgrading sooner rather than later.
I mainly play AAA titles on my PC and Warzone (my team takes it seriously), so I’m aiming for the best possible FPS. This December I’m earning decent extra cash, but the prices for my current CPUs aren’t ideal. My budget is tight: an R7 5800X costs about $575, an R5 5600X around $380 locally, and an R7 3700X $430. I need to pick the best option for me. I’m from Peru, and besides gaming, I work with Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, and do filmmaking, photography, and design. I also plan to start streaming with friends. I don’t rely on Wi-Fi; I always connect via Ethernet. I probably won’t overclock much, though I might try later if new AMD CPUs arrive soon. If it’s not too far off, I could wait for a better reason to upgrade my motherboard.

This model is showing slower performance with the latest graphics cards. It's suitable for those who already own one or can take advantage of a great family deal. I don't recommend using Zen3 on your motherboard, as the BIOS is still in beta and many features may cause issues. I match your friend's view—3600 to 5600x isn't worth the trouble or expense. Invest in a more worthwhile upgrade. Right now, Intel offers better value; if your 3600 isn't fast enough, consider the 10700 or 10850k.
Hey, I'm just starting out and I noticed Intel CPUs struggle with high RAM speeds compared to AMD. My RAM is at 3200Mhz, which is why I chose AMD. Everyone said AMD is currently superior to Intel, but maybe my comments were wrong. I think I'll wait a bit and see if a new R7 5800X comes out, or maybe upgrade my motherboard then. Fingers crossed it won't take too long—I really want to upgrade this year!
