I purchased the ASUS RT-AX3000 to ensure my home stays up-to-date. The main challenge is that I’m unfamiliar with networking and still use a basic AT&T router and modem in one unit. I just need simple advice on compatibility.

Investigate thoroughly before purchasing a new device. Can you access the AT&T gateway and switch it to bridge mode? To fully utilize the latest WiFi 6 capabilities, ensure your wireless APs and clients support it. This doesn’t mean you’re limited to WiFi 5 devices with a WiFi 6 router; they remain fully backward compatible. Also, most modern WiFi 6 routers offer superior MU-MIMO performance, enhancing simultaneous client connections to the base station.

For compatibility concerns between your new Router and your existing Modem/Router setup, you don’t need to worry much. The key factor is whether your modem/router supports 100mbps or 1000mbps ports. If it lacks the higher speed, it could slow down your internet downloads.
