Currently I own an MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard, Crucial Ballistix 64GB 3600mhz CL16 DDR4 RAM with i7-12700k, and a MSI 3070ti Gaming X Trio 8GB GPU. However, I’m uncertain whether to invest in a better GPU or upgrade my current setup. The memory is limiting performance in some games, especially at maximum settings. Alternatively, I could consider switching to a DDR5 capable motherboard. I’m also evaluating a Microcenter bundle featuring an i9-14900k, MSI MAG Z790 WiFi Tomahawk, and 32GB 6000MHZ CL36 DDR5 RAM. But I’m unsure if my Noctua NH15 would handle the 14900k’s cooling needs well enough. If I decide to upgrade the GPU, I’ll need a larger case, like the Phanteks Enthoos Pro 2 enclosed panel. Unless there’s a better option available that allows more space for a bigger GPU and SSD, it might be necessary to plan a full rebuild. Both paths seem similar in price range overall. ignore the 14th, it's a waste of money.
12700k with a better GPU will offer a smoother upgrade.
Gains are more noticeable with the GPU than the CPU.
If you're upgrading Intel, keep the 12700k with DDR4 and wait until the 15th to check socket life and what Intel brings with the new model!
It depends on your current PSU, which might need replacement.
I’d go for a 7900xt or 7800xt for more VRAM options over Nvidia. Personally, a 4070 is still good and better if you're into RT.
As for a case, the Coolermaster Qube 500 looks great, the Lian Li O11 Air Mini is another solid choice, and mesh cases are also a good option—just make sure your components fit.
Based on your current case, I think switching to a better airflow one is a good idea!
