Seeking feedback on the Intel 11700K
I understand the 11th gen works well in isolation, but in practice it falls short when measured against the AMD 5000 lineup or even its own earlier models. Intel had some missteps with the segmentation of this generation, as I believe the i7-11700k and lower models are actually strong contenders. The real issue was the introduction of the i9-11900k, which offers no real value beyond being a marketing ploy. If they aimed to please both OEMs and hobbyists, they could have omitted the i9 entirely for this lineup. Commercial partners wouldn’t have been interested in an i9 anyway, so there was no loss. In the DIY segment, having competitive, meaningful i7-11700k and below would have preserved some credibility. Fortunately, AMD is held to reality—despite the 5000 series being technically better, its limited availability lets Intel maintain a foothold. The i9-11900k was essentially a facade and should never have been released. Everything else is acceptable.
10700k tends to underperform compared to the 5600x in most cases, often costing similar or higher when you include a cooler. For gaming purposes, I’d recommend the 5600x instead of the 10700k. If you’re on a tight budget and targeting 10th or 11th generation chips, models like 10400/11400 are more practical. For better performance with Intel, consider i9-10850k, 10900k, or i7-11700k as alternatives to the 5800x.
