I tested it on two motherboards and found mixed results. The Gigabyte Z490 Elite AC with the Noctua D15 didn’t perform well, especially under heavy AVX-512 loads, causing thermal throttling. I prefer the Asus B560M-A, which handled all-core AVX-512 at 4.2 GHz smoothly with an Arctic 34 eSports Duo and no overheating. The performance was similar to Intel CPUs in terms of efficiency, though it depends heavily on settings. High heat mainly appeared during AVX-512 tasks. If you don’t rely on those workloads, it’s still competitive. The power usage didn’t hurt overall performance much. I’m surprised the AVX-512 implementation isn’t as strong as Skylake-X, but it does offer a solid boost when used properly. Whether it’s a gimmick or a real improvement depends on your needs.

AMD has been using this feature for two years already. Intel just added it to show they’re keeping up. I think the impact isn’t huge, but it’s there—just a way for Intel to claim they’re in the game too.

Critics voice their concerns when Intel lacks a feature. Now that Intel provides it, what should they do? Should they jump to PCIe 5.0? Are there hidden rules preventing AMD from doing something Intel has already done? I’m ready to wager that if Intel releases PCIe 5.0 first, all the AMD supporters will argue its value is wasted until a better AMD version arrives, making it crucial then. The main issue with Rocket Lake isn’t technical—it’s how it’s perceived in the public sphere.

I appreciate the update—this feature is appealing. The added performance is welcome. It seems more of a marketing highlight rather than a core hardware improvement, especially with PCIe 5.0 on the horizon. I’m confident about the upcoming 12th-gen release, featuring big.LITTLE and dual DDR4/DDR5 options. "Team Rocket's Rocket Lake is launching again!!!" No one has released that yet?

Also think about 10900kf if it fits your budget - you'll likely get an additional 100MHz beyond the 10850k, and the 11700k isn't too bad. At $399 it's in line with the 5800x and only marginally pricier than the 10700k.

It's really disappointing and feels like the only reason it exists is for Intel to test their backporting efforts. The product doesn't make much sense with a 10 series lineup... I'm not complaining, I'm actually risking my chances by wanting more people to buy Rocket Lake at a low price.

The main explanation for the existence of the 11th generation lies mainly in marketing strategies and partnerships with OEMs. Regardless of its actual quality, their goal is to introduce new laptops and PCs to the commercial sector through annual product releases.

Rocket Lake represents the strongest performance boost since Skylake on Intel desktops. As a standalone item, it performs well. During my tests thus far, the perf/watt ratio matches Comet Lake closely. When power consumption rises, it handles more tasks. The majority of this speed comes from AVX-512, which I understand isn't widely adopted yet, but it delivers performance gains beyond expectations. Apart from that, it's similar to Comet Lake except it isn't significantly worse unless you're among the rare users who find the 10-core configuration valuable and prefer not to upgrade to 12+ cores. You still benefit from PCIe 4.0 support (regardless of preference) and the additional four lanes for SSDs. While I disagree with some online opinions, the top Zen 3 CPU remains the 5800X.

He might save some cash and reach the 10700k, I’d rather do that.
